Microsoft layoffs hit Dynamics AX, GP teams

Microsoft's layoffs last week have reportedly hit the Dynamics AX and GP teams across multiple groups and locations.

Microsoft Dynamics AX teams that have been impacted include the "customer programs" (a.k.a. "feedback") group, as well as people working in documentation and user experience, according to a person familiar with specific employee layoffs.  The AX layoffs covered at least the Fargo and Redmond campuses.

A number of people on the Dynamics GP development team in Fargo were also let go, according to another source with contacts still working in the Fargo office. Many of those GP team members reportedly had roles involving program and product management.

UPDATE, Oct 8 2014: Another source with knowledge puts the GP layoffs at about one third of the team in Fargo.

The latest round of layoffs, which took place on September 18, have reportedly impacted 2,100 people across the company.

The Fargo campus is reported to have lost 70 employees overall according to local reports. An estimate from one person outside of Microsoft but with close ties to the AX team puts the total number of AX layoffs at around 100, though that has not been confirmed.

The Dynamics AX layoffs could impact some specific near term community-realted activities due to commitments made by people who are now out of the company, a source said. Other potential areas of impact on AX partners and customers could include the managing of beta software releases, the TAP program, partner readiness activities, and the AX technical conferences.
