Create an alert with a single click in D365FO

Writing on the Docentric blog, Ana Gligorijevic noted that alerts are a very popular functionality in Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations. However, she stated that D365FO could offer more alert-related features out of the box. To pick up the slack, Gligorijevic explained that Docentric has released a free tool that enables you to create an alert in a single click that will save you a lot of time.

You are now able to right-click on the wanted control on any form and select a new custom menu context option Create a custom alert. This will open the built-in Create alert rule form with the preselected data field that your control is bound to!

In her blog post, Gligorijevic offered some scenarios where this new create alert functionality comes in handy, such as creating an alert rule for a data field on a complex form or creating alert rules on a form with lines. She also provided information about other alert improvements from Docentric.

Dynamics 365 Finance and Supply Chain integration with Power BI

An author writing on Professional Advantage blog discussed the integration between Power BI and Dynamics 365 Finance and Supply Chain.

The author noted that the data that remains raw and unprocessed in the D365 app is a gold mine of insights ready to be extracted and refined into useful information. As such, it needs to be shaped and engineered into blocks that Power BI can use. The author stated that the two best ways to integrate and transform data between D365 Finance and Supply Chain and Power BI are AxDW and BYOD, bring your own database. AxDW is an OLAP-style database managed by Microsoft that exists in the same subscription alongside the standard D365 Finance and Supply Chain database and is used exclusively for BI.

In the blog post, the author explained the standard development process flows for using AxDW and BYOD and provided the pros and cons of using each.
