More Firms Join in Extending and Using Microsoft Dynamics AX for Lean Manufacturing

Lean manufacturing utilizing Microsoft Dynamics AX is all the rage.

Several developments over the last few months illustrate how rapidly interest in the subject has caught on.

Microsoft a few months ago acquired the lean functionality from consulting firm eBECS. As of August 1, lean manufacturing for Dynamic AX became available as a fully integrated Microsoft product. As part of the joint effort, the partners established the Lean Centre of Excellence, an information resource for users.

Three weeks ago, eBECS and a second company, SAG-US, announced a strategic alliance to make lean manufacturing solutions for Dynamics AX more widely available. Since lean manufacturing functionality now comes standard in Dynamics AX 2009, eBECS offers a wide range of Lean add-on modules and industry-specific Lean solutions for Dynamics AX 2009.

In addition, there continue to be announcements about users switching to Dynamics AX because of its supply chain usefulness. In late July, Ikelite said it was using Dynamics AX as its ERP system, in large measure because of its manufacturing and supply chain applications.

In addition to all the application activity, there's been the release of a new book on the subject by consultant Scott Hamilton, Managing Lean Manufacturing Using Microsoft Dynamics AX 2009. MSDynamicsWorld.com ran an excerpt from the book last month, and Scott Hamilton will be speaking at the upcoming virtual conference (Oct. 14) sponsored by MSDynamicsWorld.com, AX Decisions 2009.
