"When companies using Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0 or 4.0 move to Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011, there are some decisions to be made around how to move your current environment and data to CRM 2011.  If you have an on premises installation, you can install CRM 2011 on premises and upgrade your MSCRM database to CRM 2011.  This will bring in all of your customizations and data from CRM 4.0... In some cases, a direct upgrade may not be practical, and you may want to selectively migrate data."
