Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 for Retail Virtual Launch Event Opens Today with Demos, Interviews

If you joined the Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 for Retail virtual launch event today hoping for a live experience, you may have been surprised and a little confused to see the material captured in pre-recorded demos and pre-produced interviews from places including the National Retail Federation event a few weeks back.

But if you looked a little deeper, the event, which is on demand now, served to tease out some of the more interesting capabilities of the new release.

Demos from the new release, which many attendees seemed to overlook as the keynote ran, included new looks at the mobile point of sale interface on a tablet, viewing real-time customer orders from the corporate headquarters view, and social commerce, which included the ability to push trackable campaigns to different social channels like Twitter or Facebook. 

And when he wasn't chatting with attendees to  explain that demos were, in fact, in a separate area of the event, AX for Retail product manager Michael Griffiths shared some interesting tidbits as he chatted live with attendees and answered their questions.  Among them (these are direct quotes from a live chat, typos and all):

Greg Beamer:What is a migration path from RMS to AX? Been using RMS in 9 store since 2005. Now have huge databases of customers/transactions that can't be lost.
Michael Griffiths:@greg beamer - there will be a path in coming releases for customers on RMS to move to AX Retail if they choose.
