Project Madeira Preview Opens in Canada With Launch Later in 2016

Microsoft has opened up a preview of Project Madeira in Canada today. It will join the US for a public launch later in 2016, wrote Microsoft GM Marko Perisic in a blog post, and it will be released "as part of Dynamics 365."

Perisic explained some of the Canada-specific capabilities:

"Project ‘Madeira' comes preconfigured with tax jurisdictions and tax setup so Canadian businesses can report on goods and services tax (GST), harmonized sales tax (HST), and provincial sales tax (PST). The chart of accounts is also set up with the relevant General Index of Financial Information (GIFI) codes so you can report to the Canada Revenue Agency."

More countries are to come, Perisic advised, and there are unconfirmed rumors that up to four European countries are next.

Later this week at WPC 2016 Microsoft is expected to explain more about the roll out of Project Madeira as a production offering with Dynamics 365.

Project Madeira was first revealed as a preview in April 2016. It is based largely on Dynamics NAV but with new interfaces, capabilities that work in conjunction with Office 365, pre-built interfaces with CRM Online and other Microsoft cloud services, and even some new ERP-based features and functions from Dynamics GP.

Microsoft originally described Project Madeira as being aimed at the "10 to 99 employee" market, but with the announcement of Dynamics 365 as a cloud-based service platform for delivering business apps, it now appears that Project Madeira could be built out to serve companies that are quite a bit larger.
