Preparing for Year-End: To Update or Not to Update Microsoft Dynamics GP

You know the year is almost over when the leaves start changing colors, there are holiday decorations in department stores, and Microsoft is preparing the release of the Year-End Updates for Microsoft Dynamics GP. With so much going on at year end, most customers are wondering, "Do I have to do this?" The short answer this year is, most probably.

The Year-End release is targeted at addressing state and federal changes that most customers will need to close their calendar year in Dynamics GP. But since the release is cumulative, customers get to take advantage of version-specific feature packs upon installation.

This article will provide a high level overview of the 2015 updates, and to share the answers to some commonly asked questions.

Q. Does this affect my Dynamics GP environment?

A. You should consider updating if you meet the following criteria:

  • Your Dynamics system is on version GP2013 or GP2015
  • You use the Payroll Module
  • You have Affordable Care Act reporting requirements from GP. (Update is mandatory if you have these requirements)
  • You print 1099 forms from GP Payables module
  • You calculate Luxury Auto Depreciation

Q. When are the Year-End Updates available?

A. Microsoft has announced that Year-End Updates will be available the last week of November.
