Whether you are building a house or an airplane, growing crops or writing a book, you have the benefit of many years of collective experience summed up into a methodology. Methodology helps us understand the goals, and the methods to reach the goals. A good methodology brings to the surface the risks and pitfalls involved, which will keep us from making the same mistakes that someone else has made in the past.

Failures can be costly. Had the first guy who ran marathon length, poor Pheidippides, known how the marathon was supposed to be run, he may not have died of a heart attack!
