Microsoft warns Dynamics CRM Online admins on IE11 compatibility

Members of the Microsoft support team are sounding the warning that Internet Explorer 11 cannot be used for the initial configuration of Dynamics CRM Online organizations.

Redmond has issued a workaround to the problem which has plagued users since October, according to Microsoft service engineer Daria Barteneva:

"Log in to MOP from a machine with an older IE version (IE10 for example) and rerun the configuration from there OR use compatibility view."

PowerObjects CIO and Microsoft MVP Alex Fagundes recently wrote about how to use the compatibility view:

"Recently, Microsoft released Internet Explorer 11 (IE11), the newest version of its web browser," Fagundes said. "Depending on your settings, this update may be installed automatically on your computer."

When a machine is upgraded to Windows 8.1, IE11 is the only option - with no way to downgrade. With this version in place, you're redirected to the mobile site for Microsoft Dynamics CRM.

The reason for the redirect is that IE11 doesn't import settings from the previous version of Internet Explorer. But Fagundes said you can be fix this quickly by adding the domain of your CRM site into the list of sites to view in compatibility mode.  Once those settings are applied (instructions in his post), the main version of the site will return.
