Microsoft Execs Answer Early Questions on Dynamics 365 and AppSource

Following today's announcement of Dynamics 365 and AppSource, Microsoft executives have taken the extra step of answering some questions of their own choosing about the product/platform/service's introduction.

A new blog post by Dynamics CRM CVP Jujhar Singh and Business Apps CVP James Phillips provides more high level explanation of what Dynamics 365 solutions are really all about - productivity, intelligence, and flexibility to grow. They want to see growth in terms of usage by customers, of course, but also by expanding the footprint within organizations by adding ISV solutions and by using PowerApps, Flow, and Power BI, as well as other Azure services.

A few other points of interest from the post:

  • The choice of the name Dynamics 365 was not because of similarities with Office 365, or at least Singh and Phillips did not offer that as the reason. Instead, they attribute "365" to the broad range of Microsoft technology and capabilities it will bring together in a single product: analytics, integration, BI and reporting, IoT, app development, etc.
  • CRM Online and New AX customers on Azure could migrate "seamlessly" to Dynamics 365. Though the execs do not indicate who should move, when, or why they would. Nor do they give any more details on how such a move would be done.
  • A common and consistent data model is going to be key for Dynamics 365. Taking existing business application expertise and laying it on top of a common and consistent data model could be the most important improvement for partners looking to believe ...
