Many Microsoft Dynamics GP customers remain committed to their ERP, new survey finds

In October 2023, attendees at Community Summit North America 2023 completed a three question real-time survey during the event’s Dynamics GP General Session. They received 316 responses, and the results indicated that, while misconceptions about the ERP software’s future persist, a strong contingent of users plan to stay with the product as it moves into its new stage of life.

The team behind that live survey decided to go deeper, launching an online survey for GP users. The findings from that survey, recently revealed by one of the organizers, Kerry Hataley of Nanook Software, examined more specific plans, perceptions, and sentiments of GP customers today.

In the original live survey, 84 percent of respondents indicated that they had been told at different times that Dynamics GP was “going away.” 67 percent answered that they planned to keep using GP, according to Hataley.  93 percent anticipated that Microsoft will keep GP supported with Modern Life Cycle for at least the next three to five years.

In the subsequent online survey, hosted by Dynamics Communities and Nanook Software, 52 percent of respondents said they were on the newest version of GP, GP2023, with over 87 percent on Modern Life Cycle. Microsoft's Modern Lifecycle Policy requires customers to follow a different set of guidelines to continue to get support. For GP, the most important requirement for customers is to stay current by "taking at least one of three yearly planned GP releases," according to Microsoft's documentation.
