Making the Grade: A Microsoft Dynamics GP 2013 R2 Report Card

Around the time that school ended last spring, Microsoft Dynamics GP 2013 R2 was released. R2 added a lot of new features to the previous service packs. Now school is back in session and we've had a few months to play with the features. It is time to grade some of features and see how the team did.

Workflow

GP 2013 R2's new approval workflow checks off a lot of the must have items. Things like approval via email without additional licenses, document detail in the email, customizable emails, and a plethora of approval steps and options make workflow a pretty complete solution for a version 1.0 release. I'd love to see a nag option if someone doesn't approve or deny a transaction and the ability to attach supporting documents to help with approval. Finally the list of available transaction types is pretty slim in this first release. The team has indicated that more types are coming in future releases so I'm giving workflow an A minus.

Requisitions

R2 also added the ability to add a requisition in GP. Ultimately, this will lead to the end of Business Portal as requisitions move into the GP client and the web client. I think the team made a smart move by only requiring a limited user license to create requisitions. Items that are not required on the requisition - but that will later be required on ...
