Just-in-time for NRF 2018: Microsoft previews Dynamics 365 for Retail fulfillment enhancements, new customer

Microsoft has announced several new capabilities and enhancements to Dynamics 365 for Retail, all aimed at inventory visibility and immediate fulfillment. Microsoft will introduce the enhancements at the National Retail Federation's (NRF) 2018 "Big Show" in New York City Jan. 14-16.

Microsoft GM, Business Apps & Strategy Alysa Taylor described the updates as "[helping] retailers get ahead with tools that combine the best of digital and in-store to deliver personal, seamless, and differentiated customer experiences by empowering people and capturing insights to drive growth."

These latest features are now in preview, slated for general availability in early 2018, and include: 

  • Associate productivity with task notifications.Store associates can be assigned various tasks (e.g., assisting customers, running transactions, stock counts, receiving orders in store) from within a single Point of Sale (POS) application. Associates can receive notifications when a particular task requires attention, like when an order arrives, or a product goes out of stock.
  • Unified store order fulfillment.In the interest of immediate fulfillment, many retailers enable stores to fill orders from another store, or online. Microsoft has added a unified order fulfillment operation to the POS, aimed at enabling employees to fulfill orders optimally, while providing retail customers with a true omni-channel experience. Note in the example below that the order is slated for in-store pickup by the customer.
