Next month, users of the Microsoft Power Platform, will convene in Amsterdam to attend the Power Platform Summit Europe, featuring education on Power BI, PowerApps, and Flow, co-located with the Microsoft Dynamics User Group Summit.

Ben Watt, managing director of Dublin-based Datalineo, and a Data Platform MVP specializing in Power BI, will be presenting the session, "Let's Get Started with Power BI." Watt spoke with MSDW about his participation.

Starting at the beginning

The sessions are broken down into five tracks and Watt is the program lead for the Measure track, which focuses on using data to build and design dashboards and reports. He describes his session as "a beginner's guide to Power BI."

In terms of the Power Platform in the Microsoft suite of products, the session tracks roughly line up to the products – Power BI, Microsoft Flow, and PowerApps. The Measure track is mainly about data analysis and visualization in Power BI. The idea was to name the tracks after what people did with the products to help relate to business activities, rather than simply product demos.

Watt says that he and the organizing committee agreed that it made sense to offer a session for Power BI novices.

This is on the back of discussions that we had through the Planning Committee, and feedback from other events. [The fact is that] a lot of the sessions would typically be targeted to the IT people who are using the product or who are already skilled at using it and are looking for more alternative ways to do things. Or they're looking to do more advanced things. But there are other people who come through the door who have barely installed it and want to start from zero. This session is to help those people to get off the ground.

Excitement is building

Watt says he's excited about the Power Platform Summit event in Amsterdam and he's hoping to have the same great experience he had last year when the event was held in Dublin.
