Marije Brummel re-introduces herself to the Microsoft Dynamics community

September 20 2021

A veteran member of the Dynamics 365 Business Central and NAV community took some time away but returned recently to re-introduce herself. Her name is Marije Brummel and she explained to the Microsoft community that she is transgender.

Brummel, who was previously known as Mark, wrote about the transition in an article on LinkedIn and expressed both her excitement and nervousness with the announcement.

"I am currently probably the happiest person on the planet, but as of writing this probably also the most nervous," she wrote.

Revealing the news to her professional connection was one of the last steps in the journey, she explained. After gradually expanding the circle of people who knew about the transition and receiving "only positive responses, postcards, phonecalls [sic] and text messages" she decided to make the announcement more publicly.

I got only possitive [sic] responses [from personal connections on Facebook] which makes me strong enough to do the scariest thing so far.Update LinkedIn where I have over 6000 connections including people I don't know and just follow me to read my blog and keep updated on other news.

Well, you got your news and I am happy and proud to share it.

My name is Marije Brummel.

Brummel told MSDW that the response from the Microsoft community, both public comments to her article and privately, has been overwhelmingly supportive.

"I was so happy with all the positive responses to my message. The Business Central community is absolutely the best," she said.

Brummel noted in her article that she intends to return to work following her brief sabbatical. She has built a career as one of the foremost experts around custom solution development for Dynamics NAV and Business Central. She was a Microsoft MVP 11 times and has worked at various times for end user organizations, solution providers, and consulting teams. She has also worked directly with Microsoft in areas like development patterns and has authored books on development with NAV and Business Central. And she continues to update her own blog.

Marije told us that she is hopes her openness will encourage others to change their lives for the better.

"I hope my story inspires others to be the best version of themselves and make the world an amazing place."
