What You Need to Know About Waldo's PowerShell Modules for Microsoft Dynamics NAV

Recently, Microsoft Dynamics NAV MVP Eric Wauters (aka Waldo), founding partner of iFacto Business Solutions in Belgium, released his PowerShell modules. 

From time to time Wauters gives PowerShell workshops and he has noticed that there is still a lack of familiarity with PowerShell in the NAV community. That means these scripts and functions, which have the potential to make life much easier for the average Dynamics NAV professional or solution owner, will go unused by many who still lack the right knownedge about PowerShell, especially in the context of Dynamics NAV.

At the time he announced his new modules (November 20), it wasn't obvious how people could start using them if they weren't familiar with PowerShell, which calls for a quick orientation.

What is PowerShell, and how can you apply Waldo's modules?

PowerShell is a terminal-style tool developed by Microsoft for the purposes of task automation and configuration management in a Windows environment. The shell is based on the .NET framework and includes a command-line interface and a scripting language. It is most often used to simplify and automate monotonous and repetitive tasks by creating scripts and combining multiple commands.

Waldo's PowerShell scripts and functions are a kind of "starter pack," aimed at performing the most obvious tasks (e.g., installing NAV, data upgrades, multitenancy) that in-the-know NAV professionals and administrators would opt for.
