What Microsoft Dynamics users need to know when selecting a Magento implementation partner

Since it was acquired by eBay, Magento has been in high growth mode. The company reports that more than 150,000 merchants worldwide are using its platform. As a result of this tremendous growth, Magento announced a new Solution Partner Program in February of 2013 which targets system integrators and web designers interested in implementing Magento sites for merchants. The program includes training and certification requirements and access to various marketing tools, product licenses and support from Magento. Solutions partners earn commissions on Magento Enterprise licenses but also have to pay an annual fee to be part of the program.

As in other communities, Microsoft Dynamics ERP solution owners have increasingly been adopting  Magento in recent years, and the growth in Magento partners provides the opportunity to take steps toward a true multi-channel business model.  But with so many new partners popping up, it is important for Dynamics ERP customers to understand what kind of consultant will really add value to their solutions.

Magento Solution Partner Levels

Solution partners are segmented into to two levels, Gold and Silver. There is also a Magento Associate program for firms looking to build their skill set and develop a Magento practice.  The main differences between Gold and Silver partners include:

  • The annual fee for Gold partners is $10,000 while Silver partners pay $5,000
  • Partners are grouped by the number of developers that have passed certification requirements:
    • Gold partners have four Certified or Certified Plus developers
