Microsoft has published new C/AL coding guidelines for Dynamics NAV on the NAV Design Patterns wiki. These are not necessarily new guidelines, but they are newly published and open for review and comment, writes NAV MVP Eric Wauters.

Guidelines cover topics including design, internationalization and localizability, readability, and user experience. For more guidance on the guidelines, NAV MVP and design patterns champion Mark Brummel has new blog post on the subject and a new walkthrough video on the guidelines.

Brummel and Wauters have been long time supporters of improved and accessible coding standards and best practices for Dynamics NAV. They are charter members of Partner Ready Software, an initiative led by a small group of Dynamics NAV technical professionals that began in 2011. Last year the team had a breakthrough success when they published several of their design patterns in collaboration with Dynamics NAV R&D team.
