Fully Utilize License Plates in Advanced Warehouse Management with Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R3

Editor's Note: The following article is drawn from Dr. Hamilton's new book about Warehouse Management using Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R3.  The book covers the major approaches to warehouse management and their integration with the broader contexts of supply chain management, quality management and transportation management.

Multi level nesting

When picking, is it possible to associate a carton label(s) to a pallet aid / LPN and then load the pallet ID via a RF load process?

Also, is multi level nesting supported. So could I apply an LPN or carton label to an inner pack and associate the inner pack to a carton and associate the carton to a pallet? Also, could you transact at any of the levels?

Responding to Question about Multi-Level Nesting

As noted in the article, you can define a parent license plate and its nested license plates, and then simply refer to the parent license plate for movements. However, based on my testing, you need to break down a parent license plate in order to report picking/shipping work for one of the nested license plates.

It is difficult to answer the first part of your question without some further testing, so I will defer an answer for now.

• Manual definition of Nested License Plates

You wrote that "two mobile device menu items must be defined -- one to build and one to breakdown the parent license plate..." What are the details of how those menu items should be defined?

Thanks for your help
