Dynamics Profile: A Belgian Microsoft MVP builds a career with Dynamics NAV in Milan

Microsoft Dynamics NAV veteran Alain Krikilion has just received his sixth Dynamics NAV MVP award. Although he appreciates the honor now, the first time he received it he was a bit, shall we say, underwhelmed. But more on that later.

Krikilion started working with Navision version 1.2 in 1999 in his native Belgium - and fast became an expert with it. Over the years, he's worked as a programmer with Dynamics NAV specializing in solving performance issues. He likes working with the product, he says, because it's very fast and easy to program.

"I generally work with the more difficult things that not everyone could do," said Krikilion, who currently works as a senior NAV developer at Capgemini BS, the Business Unit of Capgemini Italy located in the Milan area. "Things that have to be done fast without errors the first time. They come to me for that. I'm sort of the guru - if there's problem and something doesn't work in NAV, they come to me before they go to Microsoft."

Krikilion has lived in Italy since June 2002. He moved from Belgium after meeting his wife, an Italian, online. Way before social media blew up, the couple met on ICQ, the first popular instant messaging service, in December 1999.

"We talked regularly and in August of 2000, I made my first trip to Italy and in September I started taking an Italian course," he said.

Ultimately, the pair decided to stay in Italy and Krikilion continued his work with Dynamics NAV. They now have a nine-year-old daughter who has "the mind of hacker," he said, explaining that she was able to crack ...
