When It Comes to Document Imaging, Assess the Data Capture Process Before Selecting Software

Like many other business processes, document capture is designed to work in a
centralized or a distributed manner. What is the difference? Simply stated, centralized moves the paper,
distributed moves the images.

If you're investing in
an imaging solution for Microsoft Dynamics GP, NAV or AX, you should be
thinking about how you're going to
capture paper-based information. Capture is a critical piece of the document
imaging solution and can drive the overall success of your project. This column
features some of the pros and cons to help you better understand the
differences. I've also listed some logistical details that are worth considering
before making this type of investment.

The Pros and Cons of
Centralized Capture </...

Put Your Dynamics ERP House in Order: Prepare Now for the Economic Rebound

The economic news lately is
encouraging. Business activity, from
real estate to demand for durable goods, seems to be trending upward for the
first time in many, many months. It
appears the economy has bottomed out and we're about to turn the corner to
recovery. The question is this - will you be
ready to capitalize on the increased activity?

In an economic downturn, layoffs inevitably occur, leaving many
companies more lean than they've been in years. While that's great when business volume is down, what happens
when activity increases? Are you
gearing up for the greater volume? What
is your plan? Will you do everything
you can to make your existing staff more productive or will you just re-hire the
heads that you had to let go during the recession...

The Fundamentals of Document Capture for Microsoft Dynamics, and Why They Matter

Last
month, I outlined the benefits of using document imaging with Microsoft
Dynamics AX, GP, and NAV. Now I want to explore the process further and discuss
how paper-based information gets captured.

In
this article, I address the document-capture process in some detail. Next
month, we will use this information to contrast centralized vs. distributed
processes so you can make an informed decision about which approach is best for
your Microsoft Dynamics environment.

Capture
is defined as the process of importing documents and information into a digital
format for processing, management and storage. It is a critical part of any
document imaging system and can account for nearly eighty percent of that
system's ongoing costs. Understa...

A "Greener" Approach for Microsoft Dynamics AX Users Need Not Be Complicated

A few years ago, my days were spent in the African desert
teaching ecology and conservation to students, teachers and government
officials. I lived in a modest house powered by a combination of solar and wind
energy, collected fog moisture to support daily water use and maintain a
vegetable garden with refuse water. It was an experience solely focused on my
place in the world and how everyday decisions impact how we interact with the
environment - for better or worse.

Coming back to the United States and
transitioning to the business world was quite a shock, not just culturally but
also in terms of issues of environmental sustainability and conservation.

When Microsoft Business Solutions announced on PartnerSource

Master Data Management (MDM) vs. Intelligent Data Management (IDM) with Microsoft Dynamics AX

Increasing revenue, decreasing costs and the successful management of governance, risk and compliance is the name of the game in today's economy.

In order to make necessary business decisions, executives must base these decisions on reliable data - a single version of the truth is needed. Of course this is much easier said than done, especially when the data must seamlessly flow across organizational boundaries. Service Oriented Architecture (SOA), the grouping of inoperable services around business processes, has been positioned as the enabling technology that will allow companies to meet these rapidly changing business demands and exploit new business opportunities.

According to analysts at Forrester Research, "effective management of custom...

Build on Benefits of Microsoft Dynamics: Ten Criteria for a Truly Useful Document Imaging System

What
can a document imaging system do for your accounting department?

Let's
say you've implemented Microsoft Dynamics GP, NAV or AX and it's easier and
more efficient to manage your business from a financial perspective. You're
running standard and ad-hoc reports, tracking and managing your suppliers;
integrated billing and fixed assets tracking is a cinch.

While
you've simplified accounting processes, maybe you discovered inbound documents
that drive these processes are utterly disconnected from your Microsoft
Dynamics system. You also may be inundated with an array of paper and other electronic
documents that are related to business transactions but filed separately. Most
likely, you can blame the age-old invoice process.

Microsoft Cancels Next Dynamics European Convergence Event “To Save Customers Money”

The lagging world economy has apparently claimed a major
Microsoft Dynamics convention as one of its victims.

Microsoft has announced cancellation of its Europe-based
Convergence EMEA conference, scheduled for next November in Vienna. Last year's
European conference, which serves the European, Middle East, and Asian markets,
was held last November in Copenhagen. Attendance at that event was understood
to have been close to the previous year's attendance of about 4,000.

Microsoft said it would replace the planned Vienna
conference "with local events in select EMEA markets during the
October/November timeframe, and content, resources and information will also be
made available online." Details have yet to be worked out.
